Excursion options

The National Sports Museum at the MCG allows for all learning styles. It is engaging and has an extensive interactive component.

Be sure to check out our range of learning resources for students, as well.

1. National Sports Museum
Self-guided museum visit. Knowledgeable, friendly volunteers are on hand to assist.
Rotation through the 10 exhibition spaces is best achieved in small, supervised groups.
Approximate time allowances: we recommend that you allow 30-60 minutes for the museum and, subject to availability and pre booking, allow an additional 30 minutes for the Game On! interactives gallery.
Cost: $8.50 per student.
Free admission for one supervisor per 10 students and $14 per additional supervisor.

2. MCG Tour
Guided tour of the stadium, led by a Melbourne Cricket Club volunteer. School tours are 60 minutes duration.
Cost: $8.50 per student.
Free admission for one supervisor per 10 students and $14 per additional supervisor.

3. Combined package: National Sports Museum and MCG Tour
Cost: $14 per student.
Free admission for one supervisor per 10 students and $14 per additional supervisor.

School excursions during Museum closure

While the National Sports Museum is closed, there will still be plenty of excursion options for schools coming to the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In addition to the MCG Tour, schools will have an opportunity to book into facilitated programs featuring the MCG Tour, available from August 19 2019 until February 2020 only.

MCG Tour
During the planned museum closure, our MCG Tours will still be running inside Gate 3 at a cost of $8.50 per student.

Facilitated Programs – $14 per student

Scar Tree Walk plus MCG Tour
Organised in conjunction with the Koorie Heritage Trust, students will learn about Yarra Park and the MCG as a traditional Kulin Nations meeting place.
This experience will be offered on Monday’s and Friday’s during the closure period.

16 Hands plus MCG Tour
The ’16 Hands – connecting kids with horses’ program is a 45-minute interactive presentation supported by Racing Victoria, highlighted by the chance for kids to connect with a horse, under the watchful eye of a dedicated presenter.
This package will run on Tuesday mornings.

Meet an Olympian plus MCG Tour
Available on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s, our popular Meet an Olympian program will be offered in a non-Olympic year for the first time.
The 30-minute presentation will be delivered by an Olympian provided by the Victorian Olympic Council.
